Solar Power Partners (SPP) developed the first
solar energy system for the California Institute
of Technology (CalTech) and the largest solar
energy facility for the City of Pasadena using
a solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The
system, located on top of one of the school’s
parking structures, will produce an estimated
341,669 kWh in its first year of operation.

The system was the first solar implementation
for this leading college. CalTech expects to
save approximately $13 million in electricity
costs over the 20-year term and offset 62,175
metric tons of carbon dioxide. In addition,
the project provided an excellent impetus for
students to embark on smaller campus projects.
