Suitability

The suitability of solar energy depends on the specific application, the output power level required, the number of hours that the system must provide energy, and the available space to install solar panels. An important driver for all solar system performance is directly related to the intensity of the incident sunlight.

The map below (Figure 2) reflects the highest solar intensity areas of the U.S. (dark red). Moderate (yellow) solar resources are also found in the northern Rockies and the high plains of the Midwest as well as the Southeastern U.S.

Business and industrial facilities can integrate solar photovoltaics. The most common applications for Commercial or Institutional - Solar energy provides daytime power, coinciding with peak power pricing, and supplementary power to complement grid supplied power.
